BEMER Research Overview
BEMER Physical Vascular Therapy has been the subject of research for over two decades. The body of evidence spans laboratory studies, clinical trials, and observational data from healthcare professionals and researchers across Europe, North America, and Asia.
What the research investigates
BEMER research is primarily focused on two questions: does the BEMER signal measurably improve microcirculatory blood flow, and does that improvement produce meaningful clinical outcomes in specific conditions?
The answer to the first question is well established. Multiple independent studies using intravital microscopy — direct visualisation of living capillaries — have confirmed that BEMER application produces measurable increases in local microcirculatory blood flow, with some studies documenting improvements of up to 29% after a single 8-minute session.
The answer to the second question is condition-specific and continues to be investigated. The strongest clinical evidence exists in areas of wound healing, post-surgical recovery, sports performance, and cardiovascular rehabilitation.
Research methodology
BEMER research employs several methodologies. Laboratory studies use intravital microscopy to measure capillary blood flow velocity and volume directly. Clinical studies measure indirect markers — wound healing rates, pain scores, blood markers of inflammation, sleep quality indices, and physical performance metrics.
A significant body of research has been conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Microcirculation (IfM) in Berlin, which specialises in the physiology of the microvascular system. The IfM developed the scientific framework that guided the design of BEMER's patented electromagnetic signal.
BEMER is a Class IIa medical device under European CE marking (MDR 2017/745). Regulatory approval at this level requires documented clinical evidence of both safety and efficacy — it is not granted on the basis of manufacturer claims alone.
